April 25, 2021
I hope that you have had an enjoyable April Vacation and are well rested for the final stretch of the 2020-2021 school year. As we enter our last academic quarter we have an active academic calendar with SAT, MCAS and AP assessments as well as many exciting extracurriculars such as our Spring sports season, Musical and Carnival Ball Productions, art installations, mural paintings and a Stress-Less Day of enrichment and community. It will be a fast and busy quarter and students are reminded and encouraged to actively engage with their teachers for any extra help and support during afternoon extended academic sessions.
Our final quarter also includes a return to full in person learning with grade nine starting on Wednesday, April 28 and all grades on Monday, May 3. It will be our first time together as one school under the same roof since last March and the first time for our ninth graders to experience Stoneham High School with all students and grades present.
This event in itself is a significant transition that will have some people excited and others anxious. Excited to be with peers, friends and teachers and anxious about COVID and implications for school and activities. Either feelings and all others are normal and fine. We ask that you support and respect each other and to please utilize your teachers, counselors and administrators for any concerns you may have.
As you return to school keep it simple and do as you have throughout the school year; Correctly wear a mask at all times, wash / sanitize hands frequently, follow the transition routes in school and socially distance as best possible. School expectations, rules and schedule are exactly the same, the only difference is that we are all in together rather than cohorts.
The return to in person learning also brings students of the Class of 2021 together for their final quarter in Stoneham High School. Plans are underway for events and activities for the Class of 2021 such as Powder Puff Football, Senior Celebration and Senior Parade to name just a few.
As you can see, there is much going on and much to look forward to. With this in mind we ask for your continued diligence with adherence to COVID Safety Guidelines during and after school hours. We want all events and activities and in person learning to run as planned and for all students to have the opportunity to attend and participate. Wearing a mask, washing hands and social distancing makes a difference.
We have come this far...Keep it going SHS...Spartan Strong!

Stress-Less Day
On Thursday, May 13, SHS will hold a Stress-Less Day. This day, still in development, is an idea initiated from our SOAR Club and quickly supported by other clubs and school organizations such as Student Council, GSA, National Honor Society and Peer Leaders. The day is aimed at having SHS students and faculty engage in and lead enrichment based activities that encourage community and promote well being. Currently students and faculty members are developing a wide ranging activities list inclusive of the ideas and interests of our students and faculty. In lieu of classes, students will select the activities (4) they will wish to participate in for this day. This is a required school day for all students with the goal of coming together as a community and engaging in stress - less activities. More info and details to follow. |

MCAS / Class of 2022
DESE has approved a change of the ELA and Math MCAS graduation requirement for the Class of 2022. As with the Science MCAS, the ELA and Math, as a Competency Determination (CD) for graduation, has been waived for the Class of 2022. An alternative CD will soon be announced and will be in line with the Science CD, with students demonstrating achievement through successful completion of identified courses in English and Math. However, students in the Class of 2022 who wish to be considered for the The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, the Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery or for the State Seal of Bi-literacy are still required to complete the ELA and Math MCAS. Please speak with your student/s regarding this option. Class of 2022 students who wish to take the Spring 2021 ELA and Math MCAS must register. A survey to register will be sent to all members of the Class of 2022. Only students who wish to take the Spring 2021 ELA and Math MCAS need to complete the survey and registration. The survey will be sent to all Class of 2022 students in an email this evening at 6:30pm and will remain open until Wednesday, 4/28, at 12:30PM |
