Winter Break 12/24/21 - 1/2/22

Printer Friendly Version

Good evening,

I hope this last weekend before the Holiday Vacation finds you well and in good spirits.  We go into this shortened week with the excitement and anticipation of a much-needed break.

As the week begins, we are also reminded of the increase in concerns with COVID.  We want all students, families, and faculty to be afforded a positive, safe and healthy Holiday Vacation and want to remind students of the continued importance to be diligent with wearing a mask and to, when feeling sick, stay home.

Happy holidays and a good week to all!

In the health office, we are seeing an uptick in all types of viral illness.  Please do not come to school sick!

If you arrive at school sick, WE WILL NOT COVID TEST YOU.   This is not the purpose of our testing program and we have limited resources and test kits.  Our testing program is for individuals (unvaccinated) who are close contacts in school settings.  Additionally, for individuals who develop symptoms during the school day.

For the health and  safety of all , please respect this policy. Thank you!

Good afternoon SHS,

Last December, while we were all quarantined in our homes, the drama club created and recorded their first ever radio program (all over a Google Meet!). If you're looking for a little extra something to do next week, we encourage you all to listen in.

The Stoneham High School Drama Club proudly presents...Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, A Radio Program.

National Honor Society / Application Process

Recently, some decisions have been made about the practices of the National Honor Society and what is in the best interest of our students. This includes how and when student GPAs are calculated in order to qualify for the 4.1 GPA requirement.

We have shifted the timeline of when this calculation occurs to after the first semester of Junior and Senior year. We believe this will provide a more accurate report of the current GPA, taking into consideration the rigorous schedule in which many students are currently enrolled.

The goal of this shift creates an equitable process for our students that allows us to best acknowledge their achievements.

After students are identified based upon the 4.1 GPA requirement they will receive an electronic letter inviting them to start the process of joining the National Honor Society. Students will then complete the application process which is based upon how they have met the criteria for the four pillars identified by the constitution of the National Honor Society.

These four pillars are scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The application will ask students to provide evidence of these pillars in their daily life as well as a written personal statement addressing how they embody these four pillars.
