PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION
Hello,
Certainly, a beautiful weekend of sun and enjoyable weather, I hope you were able to get out and partake in some seasonal fun.
Students have responded well to the bathroom occupancy limits. We thank them for their response to this change as we all work together for a safe and positive school culture.
With school culture in mind I share two items for us as a community to be aware and to address.
The first item is a request for students to be thoughtful and mindful with their web searches when utilizing their chromebooks and devices on SPS internet / Wifi. Stoneham Public Schools utilizes the Securly program to alert school administration when words or phrases regarding school safety and student well-being are detected. These alerts allow administration and school counselors to investigate and determine any safety risks or concerns and intervene accordingly.
It has come to our attention that some students may think it humorous to type in concerning words on a peer’s computer and initiate a school response. This is a significant lack of understanding and appreciation of school safety as well as misuse of resources and time. Safety and security for all members of our school community is top priority and incidents where safety and security have been determined to be a result of a joke or prank will result in a significant school response. We do not want this to continue or increase. We ask that parents / caregivers to please speak with their students about the importance of this matter.
The second item is a reminder to all adult drivers while on school grounds. As all drivers know, parking lots require much attention and patience. Statistically most accidents occur in parking lots. Adding to this is that our parking lot is on a high school campus where approximately two hundred of our daily drivers are student drivers with less than two years of driving experience. Most likely there will be instances with our student drivers where this driving inexperience may occur.
With this in mind I ask all adult drivers to be extra mindful, extra careful and extra patient. At no time is it permitted or acceptable for any person other than a SHS Faculty member to confront or address a student, especially in any manner which would not be tolerated of our students and faculty. Any observed instances of student driving concerns should be reported to school administration or our School Resource Officer. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we all work for a positive and safe school campus and learning environment.
Lastly, a reminder that we are entering the final three weeks of the 1st Quarter and for students to continue to utilize FLEX block opportunities to support their academics and to address any missing work or needed support.
Have a great week! Go Spartans!
