Good evening,
All I can say is that I hope you found some time to enjoy this weekend's amazing weather and that the experience has left you in good spirits as we begin the week ahead. Enjoy it while you can as we all know what weather is waiting around the corner.
The month of November ushers in the start of a busy time of the school year with holidays, Fall Sports MIAA Tournament action, Fall Drama Club Theatre rehearsals and Production, Winter Sports, Grade 9 and 10 Semi Formal Dance and a slew of other activities. These are fun activities for our students of which we encourage participation in.
These activities can also create a lot of stress and anxiety trying to balance school work and extracurricular involvement. The meaningful utilization of FLEX Block to complete class work and access any needed academic support from classroom teachers is essential to assisting students in successfully managing this fun and busy time. As we begin the 2nd Quarter students are encouraged to reflect on their 1st Quarter successes and any areas for improvement and how best to utilize the daily FLEX block to most support their learning and continued growth.
With this time of year, we can also expect colder temperatures and the precipitation associated with winter months of snow, ice, rain, etc. to impact student transportation to school and our parking lot. With this in mind it is important to strongly remind parents and caregivers of the necessity to adhere to and follow our posted driving routes and student drop off and pick up locations. Our traffic plans have been established to provide optimum pedestrian and driver safety and traffic efficiency.
This safety and efficiency are jeopardized when drivers do not follow the posted routes and attempt to drop off and pick up students in locations other than posted. Specifically, drivers in the parking aisle travel lanes who drop off or wait to pick up students or those who drop off of students in the top parking lot closest to the school. Both of these impact safety and efficiency by breaking the designed flow of walking and driving patterns. It causes confusion, adds to congestion and creates an unsafe, disorderly and unpredictable environment for our students.
Drop off and pick up of students is only to occur in the designated area in the new lower parking lot in the posted area at the bottom of the parking lot stairs. Drop off and pick up is prohibited in the parking lot aisle travel lanes.
Drop off and pick up of students in the upper parking lot closest to the school and Main Entrance is for those students with a short term or long term physical need which prohibits the use of the designated area in the lower parking lot. Cold or rainy weather does not meet the physical need criteria.
I thank you in advance for your support and efforts to help provide a safe environment for our students while also allowing for an efficiency of traffic flow and movement.
Have a great week. Go Spartans!

Attendance / School start time 8:15AM
We are seeking your assistance to help support a positive learning environment for all students and to help eliminate a consistent, if not growing morning attendance issue, specifically speaking, lateness / tardy, to school and the first period class which starts promptly at 8:15am. We kindly ask that all students and parents / caregivers review morning routines and travel patterns to ensure a morning drop off that allows for students to be in their classrooms and seats by 8:15AM. Classes start and the educational process begins at 8:15AM, when students arrive late to class they interrupt the learning process and the learning of their peers. Though this is not intentional it is not considerate or respectful to the planning of the teacher or for the students already in class. We thank you and appreciate your attention to this matter and supporting a positive and supportive learning environment for all SHS students. |
